Research Engineer

Matrix Research is an employee-owned, small business comprised of industry leaders who are advancing the state of the art in radar systems, radio frequency, and sensor exploitation technologies. Nearly half of our technical staff holds a Ph.D. in Engineering, Mathematics, or the Physical Sciences. Our programs span basic research through low-rate production of advanced sensing systems, subsystems, and components. Located in Dayton, Ohio, and Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Matrix offers extremely competitive salaries and benefits.

We are currently seeking Research Engineers for our growing business in Dayton, Ohio area with a demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Signal Processing: Candidates should demonstrate an ability to apply foundational theory (e.g., detection & estimation theory, optimization theory, inverse problems) to sensor signal processing problems (e.g., STAP, SAR, ELINT, ATR, Computer vision). Demonstrated knowledge of machine learning is a plus.
  • Analog Systems: Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design, develop, and produce complete analog RF and IF subsystems as part of larger systems.
  • Digital Systems: Candidates should demonstrate the ability to design, develop, and produce complete digital signal processing systems comprised of FPGAs, DSPs, and/or GPUs.
  • Radar Software Engineer: Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop real-time software including firmware, drivers, and user interfaces for radar related applications. Experience with visualization and high performance computing including multi-processor and/or GPU implementations is highly desired.
  • RF Exploitation Research: Candidates should demonstrate the ability to develop business and execute advanced RF research. Research topics to include signals detection, collection, and exploitation for defense applications, (e.g. NCTI, OTH, SAR, etc.)


  • Successful applicants will possess a Ph.D. or Master's degree in a related field
  • Be capable of supporting customers directly and pursuing new business.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret security clearance.
